Kaitlyn Laney, CFP spoke on The Happy Life Agena podcast sharing insights not only about how to manage your fianances but also how to balance career and family. Her secret? Making her marriage number one.
Making your marriage number one
It’s easy to push aside your spouse when life gets busy. If anyone has ever heard the mantra, “blood is thicker than water,” uttered in a heated argument among spouses, you know what I’m talking about. The kids easily come first. But, then, so does the career, and the playdates, and the aging parents and before you know it, you’re two strangers living in the same house.
In my interview with Kaitlyn Laney, CFP of My Treak Wealth, she talks about focusing on your marriage first and then everything else falls into place.
Laney admits it is not always easy, but making it a goal to have date nights just like you make it a goal to achieve certain benchmarks at work. She says that even when a fancy restaurant is not feasible, holding hands and sharing Starbucks on a trip to the grocery store can make sure all the “busyness” of life gets addressed while still making time for one another.
the number one cause of divorce
Laney’s approach to marriage makes a lot of sense. Especially when you consider that the number one cause of divorce is lack of commitment. If you are not committed to something–fitness, work, school, etc. The likelihood of achieving your goal or achieving it well is low. The same is true for marriage, if you are not committed–however difficult life may become–it won’t last.
On The Happy Life Agenda, I talk a lot about the breakdown of the family unit in modern society. The balance that is necessary to sustain a family is important for sustaining a marriage. When marriages fail, the future of the world pays the price because of the impact this has on children.
THE RIGHT MINDSET
The Happy Life Agenda supports women in mastering the mindset to achieve the life you have always wanted to live. Your approach to your spouse is a mindset.
If you are always thinking angry thoughts about your spouse or blaming him for not doing this or saying that–you will get anger and frustration in return. If you approach with an open mind and stop trying to control the other person, it is amazing how channels of communication open up. Yes, there may be cases where the clarity you achieve is that you haven’t found the right partner–Laney touched on this in the conversation too–but that is the incredible thing about mastering mindset: you also discover exactly who and what belongs in your life and learn to let go of the stuff that does not belong.
